In Adelaide, a Monday night in June usually means staying at home and getting cosy with a bowl of curry on the couch. However, Monday 6 June 2011 wasn’t any ordinary Monday, it was the day the Wedding Girl iPhone app launched into iTunes!
I had plenty of reasons to celebrate my app going live, but I especially appreciate all of my guests who braved the chilly, but clear, winter night to celebrate with me. We were of course kept toasty and warm in the opulent surroundings of the BMW showroom on West Terrace, and the Cindy’s Classic Gourmet staff kept the wine and cheese flowing to warm us from the inside too. While no one went home with a BMW, we were expertly looked after by the BMW team, and thank them for letting us turn their newest models into a fleet of Wedding Girl vehicles for the night.

While I’ve been able to leverage my industry experience, entrepreneurial attitude and designer dreams into the most beautiful and functional wedding planning app, I couldn’t have done it without the support of the most forward thinking and equally innovative suppliers, and for those of you who attended our iTunes launch, you know that support doesn’t go unrewarded.

I also let those who attended in on some of the other wedding planning tools I’ve had in the works, such as the Wedding Girl eMagazine which will be a purpose designed electronic magazine for the iPhone and the iPad and if you’re interested in being a part of our special launch issue, contact me now. Wedding Girl Team Planning Sessions
Once my Wedding Girl team and I had packed up after the party on Monday we all went out to celebrate at Laxmi’s Indian Restaurant on Glen Osmond Road. The restaurant came highly recommended by one of my team, Oliver, and the sign outside claimed they served the ‘Best Butter Chicken’ and so we were ready to put them to the test.
We did in fact order three serves of the butter chicken (between 10 people) as well as several of the lamb korma, the beef vindaloo, the chicken tikka masala and the traditional lentil daal. Thank goodness we’d also ordered several serves of soothing raita because as Oliver had warned us, the vindaloo was a real vindaloo, and hot, hot hot.
Hot or not each dish was delicious, and the sign out the front certainly hadn’t lied to us about the butter chicken. Being a Monday night we also had the restaurant to ourselves and so were able to chat with the owner Birendra Singh who had his auntie, his brother and his cousins working in the kitchen, using traditional Indian ingredients and methods to put together our delicious meal. My mother is also Indian (you’ll hear more about my background and life before Wedding Girl in my autobiography ‘Whyalla to Weddings’ coming out soon) so I was especially interested in hearing about the family’s and the restaurant’s history and techniques, and Birendra was equally interested in hearing about Wedding Girl because he and his family often cater parties and celebrations hosted at their restaurant or private venues and I thank him for his support of the app.
Of course, my team and I were out to an afterhours dinner, but we couldn’t help continuing to discuss the Wedding Girl app, and plans for the future. We are all so excited to see the Wedding Girl app live, and can’t wait to see what the brides of Australia think, so that coming updates of the app can be made even better.
